Question:

A WEIRD LAN Problem!!!!?

I have an XP PC connected to a win98 PC in a local area network. The win98 folders are fully shared, but when I try to copy and paste to the XP PC, it COPIES a small portion of the data, and then the icon in the SysTray stops blinking, and it gives a stop message!!!

I'm sure that it works for a part of the data, because if the file is small in size, it's copied sucessfully!

There's not fixed data size for the occurence of this problem, it may work for a 2 Mb file, and sometimes it copies less than 1 Mb before it stops.

The stop message states that it can't copy because the path is no longer available.

have you encountered something like that before?

  1. make sure that it does not have any microsoft webpages or documents. once i tried to copy from 98 to xp a folder in winch there was a web document about microsoft porducts. it stopped at that document. when i took that away it completed successfully.the funny thing was that it copied all documents , even web documents except that of the microsoft. i think there may be a porblem with filename length. tryto zip all of them with a small file name and then send it over.

    hope it helps

  2. That's because Win 98 is probably using some outdated protocol that Win Xp refuses to talk with.
