  1. Hey Robert B., you didn't allow for wind speed or direction either!

  2. 500 mph

  3. speed = distance/time

    speed = 1500miles/3hours = 500miles/hour

  4. Yes, this is a simple division problem.  But take note, that the speed calculated is the average speed over the distance covered.  The speed at any particular moment may have been much more or much less than the calculated average speed.

    Average speed = distance/time in miles per hour

    Good luck!

  5. I'm not sure how to answer this question. 1500 miles is a great distance around the planet, The formulas above do not take into consideration the curvature of the earth. You may need to know the azimuth and the take off and landing points. If you have ever seen a map of airline flight routes, you know they do not fly in a straight line. 1500 miles on the ground may mean a far greater or shorter distance in the air, depending on destinations. Let me also point out that the assumption would not work for a train either. Say a train travels from Maine to Florida with a little side trip to Penn station, that might be about 1500 miles, but that train would also have to climb some mountains and hills, are you measuring 1500 miles as the bird flies or 1500 miles of actual track.

    wind speed or direction would not change the answer.

  6. lol, are u serious?

    speed= d/t

    speed= 1500/3

    speed= 500miles/hr

  7. It depends.

    The 3 hours travel is by the airplane clock or by the depart and landing airports clocks?  it may involve time zones...

    The simple answer is 1500 / 3 = 500 miles per hour, but most airplanes have the speedometer showing "kilometers per hour", in this case = 800km/h.

  8. simple division

    1500 miles / 3 hours = 500 miles/hour

    .

  9. 500mph
