(b) Express the distance s between the plane and the radar station as a function of d.

  1. (b) Use the Pythagorean theorem.

    The square of the hypotenuse of a right triangle is equal to the sum of the squares on the other two sides

    Assume that the base of the triangle is 1mile, d is the height, and the hypotenuse is s:

    s^2=1^2+d^2

    s=sqrt(1+d^2)

    (c) s=sqrt(1+9000t^2)

  2. b) rt(1+d^2) Use right angled triangle.

    c) s = rt{1+90000t^2}

    Simple!
