Question:

A bad night or a new pattern? ?

My son is nine weeks old. For the past month he has had the same pattern every night: go to bed at about 10:30pm, sleep until about 4am, eat, and then back to sleep for a few hours.

Last night, though, he woke up every two hours all night long. He hasn't done this since we got home from the hospital. I didn't feed him any more than usual---all the other times he just screamed until I came in and fussed with him, and then he went back to sleep. Also, there was no change in his bedtime routine and he hasn't been sick.

So, mostly because I'm totally depressed about this, has anyone else had the same experience? Was it a one-time thing, or did your baby start doing this every night? Do babies have "bad nights"?

Thanks!

  1. Babies do have bad nights...  So I hope that's all it is!

But my baby has been having bad nights for 3 weeks now!  He is 5 months old.  He slept through the night up until 3 weeks ago, now he is up multiple times a night...  Because he wants his pacifier back, or because he accidentally rolled onto his tummy and he doesn't like that...

Last night he was up every hour or so....

Maybe your son is going through a growth spurt?  They do get hungry more often during a growth spurt..

    Good Luck~

  2. Could be a growth spurt. If you're breastfeeding it could've been something you ate. Babies have good nights and bad ones! My daughter was waking overnight till...actually she still does at 6.5mths! At 4mths she was waking 2-3 times per night. Hopefully its just a phase and he'll be back to his old self sooner rather than later! Good luck!
