I am going snowboarding this weekend and have never boarded before! I'm excited , but I'm also nervous. Is it hard to learn as a beginnger ? Help with the bindings ? How do you get on/off a ski lift?

  1. It is very hard. You will spend all morning on your butt and your knees. Get wristguards. Lots of girls do. It is smart. Once you get the hang of it though.. you will love it. Good luck. The rental shop will adjust your bindings for you. Ski lifts are easy. Just watch the other people there.

  2. Sign up for a package of lessons and rent the equipment at the area. A 3 lesson package with lifts and equipment is about $1-2 hundred dollars.  The best part is having a group of your ability near you at all times and someone who falls as much as you do. The lessons will include how to ride and load and unload from the lifts.

  3. all the above advise is very good..just remember you WILL FALL ALL DAY ! if you know this going into it by the end of the day when you are able to go 20-50 -100 yards with out falling and you start to get it, you will know it was all worth it. get a pkg with lessons and welcome aboard.

  4. I can't really remember having any difficulty learning how to snowboard, my friend said that I was a natural at it and I learned how to do it my first time up a mountain.  I have been snowboarding for the last 5 years.

Getting off a lift can be tricky, but if you need to to go slower just make a hand motion for the guy in the controls box to slow it down.  When you get off, put your back foot on the stomp pad in the center of the board and just ride it down the little slope.

Bindings are easy to buckle and unbuckle, all of them are different so it depends on what kind you get.  I have Roxy ones

Good luck and have fun!  Snowboarding is more fun that skiiing! :D

  5. To get off the lift wait to see the "prepare to dismount"(or something similar) sign. Then lift the bar and get one butt cheek off the chair. When you reach the little dismount slope at the end aim the nose of your board down and put your back foot on you r stomp pad (little rubber dude between your bindings)-your back foot will be out of your bindings for the whole ride up- and ride dowm the little slope. As a beginner its not tough to learn and ask the rental shop how to do your bindings. Just DON'T try to get air, do rails, or go straight down. Good luck!

  6. Take lessons.  Most times if you have a friend teach you, you'll never do it right.

Do what the previous person said about getting off the lift, but if you have a hard time picturing it, watch someone. it really helps.

Good luck, and have fun!!! Boarding rocks!

  7. ok first...you will fall a LOT, and it will be hard! DON'T get discouraged....thats the worst thing that can happen....when you get discouraged and give up things get worse and you'll have a h**l of a time learning. Be optimistic and keep going.

Since you will be falling a lot...you need to learn how to fall......

    1. never try to catch yourself with your hands...this is how you sprain/break your wrists. you should try to catch yourself with your forearm(between wrist and elbow)

    2. dont fall directly on your butt, if you do you will be sorry ESPECIALLY if its icy. chances are you will bruise/break your coccyx(tailbone). you want to try and fall on one side of your butt....yes that side will be sore the next day....but would you rather be sore and able to sit, or really really sore and not able to sit?

Ski lifts arent as hard as i thought they would be. really you just keep your front foot strapped into your board, and you skate up to wherever they have you get on the lift, then you let it hit u in the legs and fall back onto it. if you are new and want them to slow it down for you they can...just let them know

bindings are easy....are you renting or do you have your own board?

if you rent you will most likely have 'step-in' bindings, these are where the bots have 2 tiny metal rods at the sides that hook into a flat binding with a little release lever. they are simple...sometimes they can be a pain, but usually you should be able to strap right in.

if they are your bindings...you should know how to use them...just step in...tighten your straps

    THE BEST OF LUCK

    and remember

DONT GIVE UP OR GET DISCOURAGED!!!!!!
