  1. If you can afford it, Hyde Park or Barton Hills in Austin.  Westlake can be a good place as well, but the smug factor is WAY off the scale, even by Austin standards.

Anything within a 10 - 15 min commute to work in Austin can't really be considered bad either.

  2. Austin is beautiful, but full of liberals.  Lots of great restaurants (Texadelphia has the best sandwiches). Depending on what you do for a living, Austin may or may not offer the type of jobs you are looking for.

Arlington is very nice but very crowded.  It's right between Dallas & Fort Worth.  You also get to experience winter (sometimes even snow) whereas in Austin, the winters are mild.

Either way, property taxes are very high.  You can get a lot of house for $300K but the taxes average about 3.1%.

    Go Longhorns either way!!!
