  1. I wouldn't buy it for my mother! good hydraulic brakes are going to cost money. to bring a bike down to the $300 dollar range (yes, that's what it would cost a Yank for the same bike, despite what people think of the exchange rates..) other sacrifices are made in the quality of the frame, or the other components..

  2. If you are as lucky as me, you can get a low mileage second hand quality hardtail for about £100, a second hand disc wheelset with Hope hubs and mavic D521 rims for £65, then get some Hope hydraulic calipers and levers on eBay for about £90, leaving you £45 for braided hoses and decent rotors.

Or you could pick up a complete bike on eBay, after christmas is a good time.

  3. Only 2nd hand but you need to be knowledgeable about bikes or you could be wasting your £300.

  4. HA! i like your humor. but unfortunately, unless it's a used bike that pretty old, there is no way you could get a bike for that price AND have hydros. You could buy a good set of hydraulic disc brakes for about that price, or a lame bike. You really shouldn't get hydros unless you are willing to spend at least 1000 bucks(on the low end) on a bike with them.(sorry, i don't know the current conversion for Euros)

  5. 1000 bucks?  If thats what a certain person pays for a bike with hydraulic disc brakes, then I have this bike in my shed....

Anyway, £300, nothing from this years range, but if you were to look at last years models on sale....

Giant do a reasonable machine for about £425 new, with MPH hydraulic brakes.  Good entry level machine.

However, at this price range, if you have hydraulic brakes, you are going to lose out on quality elsewhere (Frame, shocks, etc).

Because of this, I would be tempted to buy a Vbrake machine for the same money, but that has disc ready hubs/frame/forks.  This will allow you to upgrade later.

(You should then be able to buy quite a nice machine, like Specialised Rock hopper, or Giant Rock SE, etc.).

    Luck

  6. Second hand maybe.
