I need to read a biography for my English class, it must be at least 100 pages, and must be about an American or someone who has spent most of their life in America, who has experienced/faced conflict.

Please post all of your suggestions! looking forward to it.

  1. Truman, by David McCullough.

  2. Walt Disney, Mark Twain, Ben Franklin, Frank Loyd Wright, or John Adams would be my suggestions.

  3. I would recommend "Up From Slavery", by Booker T. Washington.

  4. If an autobiography is allowable, I would recommend The Story of My Life by Helen Keller (the deaf, blind and mute girl portrayed in the movie The Miracle Worker) or The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin. Both of them are fascinating. If you enjoy old black and white movies, I'd recommend Ginger: My Story by Ginger Rogers - it was a fascinating look at a star in the days of the old Hollywood studio system and a view of Hollywood, itself.

If you like history, I'd recommend Benjamin Rush-Signer of the Declaration of Independence by David Barton. He was the man known as the father of education in America. Patrick Henry, Prophet of the Revolution by Jane Carson was a good one, too.

Invincible Louisa by Cornelia Meigs was a great biography of Louisa May Alcott. It read like a novel, in my opinion.

    I hope this helps.

  5. Walt Disney: The Triumph of the American Imagination

    Hemingway: A Life Without Consequences

Lady Liberty: A Biography  - about the Statue of Liberty, could make for a cool perspective on bio of an "american"
