  1. put it in a cage, give it water

  2. If the bird is unconscious or stunned, place him in a dark box and keep him warm and quiet.

If you see blood anywhere (particularly around the nares, beak or in his poops), if there is any swelling around the eyes or one eye doesn't open, if there are any unusual movements of the head or body (such as circling in one direction or constantly looking up at the sky), if either wing is drooping more than the other or if both wings are drooping and the bird can't bring them into position, if he's favoring either leg, if he's gasping or breathing open-mouthed and this doesn't subside within an hour - then he needs help and you'll have to find a local rehabber IMMEDIATELY.

If after an hour he looks alert and doesn't show any of the above signs, give him another hour to rest in the box.  Then check again,  If he looks normal and is bright eyed then open the box and see if he's able to fly away.

Do NOT feed him or give him water.  If he loses consciousness or isn't alert he could aspirate

  3. Contact the local animal shelter.

Look in the phone book. If you can't find it, contact a pet shop and as how to contact a shelter.

  4. Try picking it up to see if it moves. Dab water onto its beak close to wear he will drink it. If he reacts put some water on the tip of its beak.

Write some more after you try those ideas.

  5. Dont touch it! If you leave your smell on it then if it manages to get back outside its mother will reject it.

I've had a simualr situation before. I got a little recycling bin and put some straw in it, (i have a rabbit so i have straw, you could use newspaper,) then i put the recycling bin down on its side and tryed to erge the bird into it without touching him.

Once he was in i put him outside and put the bin on its side again. I also put a small bowl of water in there and found one or two worms. He had the option to go out but he didnt for a while. Eventually off he went.

    Good luck =D

  6. your doing everything right. Just don't touch it A LOT, because of the oils on your hands. The towel is great, thats what you are supposed to do. But try to get a cage around it- trust me, I live in the woods, and capture birds (and let them go), and I have had a bird, if it's drinking it's fine. Because it wouldn't be able to drink or get up if it broke it's neck or body. Try not to make a lot of noise, because it will act like it's hurt because it is afraid to move because of all the noise.  you put the cage around it, because soon it is going to pannic and try to escape, (you want to do this if he is in you're house) you can even use a waste basket (with holes), because when it starts flieng it is going to be ALL OVER your home. Wish you luck because I love birds.
