Question:

A bit of nonsense, for the American posters.?

In Seventeen hundred and seventy six

On the fourth of July, I believe.

A bunch of people over the sea

Decided our dominion should cease

They didn't like our brand of tea

They didn't like our Coersive acts.

So they severed all the links with us

These are the established facts.

Just imagine what would have happened

If King George hadn't been such a twit.

You'd all talk with a plum in your mouth

Whilst maintaining a stiff upper lip.

You'd travel to work upon the tube

Say 'How Do You Do' and that,

Carry The Times and a furled umbrella

And wear a black bowler hat.

What a lucky escape you had.

Happy Fourth of July for tomorrow

Have a drink on me.

(got over my tears)

  1. Fantastic fun, this one! Love it!

Even though you don't celebrate you wish all of us well...You are too kind. I will have a drink for you. We are also celebrating my best friends independence day birthday!

  2. Thank you for your "kind" words about the 4th.  I have always wondered what was the British viewpoint on our "liberation". Its funny - after all these years - and I certainly was not alive then (I don't think) - I seem to have a sense of "embarrassment" about it in front of the British.  Like a sheepish teenager - who had to react - but still felt affection towards their roots. ♥

  3. Loved it--.Here in Canada, we are a little bit American and a little bit British.--I hope the best of both.

  4. Ah, the Fourth of July

    How patriotic, how American

    So red, white and blue

    lets shoot some fireworks...

    oops, made in China!

Some people like salt in their pint.  Others shed tears.  Same result, a salty taste!  Don't drink and cry...lousy beer!

  5. Hey, Where are the trolls today? are they out tooting their horns ?

    I am Canadian

I have just a little to say

    on this your independence day..

an apology, perhaps atonement, if you will

Our civil war was fought in a bar

and it lasted a little over an

    hour.

The only person who was arrested

in our civil war was an American mercenary,

who slept in and missed the whole thing...

    but showed up just

    in time to get caught.

and so goes democracy... Happy 4th to you all!

  6. I doubt it. Even if the Americans had remained British subjects, they most likely would have continued to develop in different ways, such as Canadians and Australians.

Thanks for your "nonsense," regardless. I'm American but I feel half-Brit, having read so much English literature and history over the past thirty years. Cheers!

  7. Whilst I enjoy a hotdog some french fries, and a cold beer, please have yourself some fish n chips and a pint.
