I have a short haired dog (she is a pit bull mix)

anyway a few minutes ago I saw something black stuck in her fur

i thought it might be something from a plant embedded in her fair.

but after i took it out and examined it, it was a fairly large bug.

not exactly a huge bug, but i dont know what it was

is this a flea/tick, what should i do?

  1. Probably a tick because they bite really down deep and you usually get some skin or fur when you pull it out...

Check her out really good from head to toe, there might be more there...

Nothing to worry about, it was just a miniature vampire.. lol

  2. Sounds like a flea..... Go get some Frontline and treat his living quarters and yours.....

  3. It was a tick.  pull it out and let it heal.

  4. Yes its most likely a flea or tick, just go to your local petsmart and get some flea medication (frontline or advantage) for her.

  5. If you only found one, no problem. There are a variety of beetles or roaches etc. If the dog has more than one, bath the animal and use a tick and flea medication or shampoo.

  6. You've seen what it looks like.  Search in the internet for images of ticks and fleas. If it's neither a flea nor a tick, search for any more of the same insect from your dog.  If you don't find one, be calm, it may be just a bug that got there accidentally.

If it's a flea or a tick, you'll find a cure for it from the pet shop.

If it's neither a flea nor a tick and you find more of the same insect in your dog, show it to the attendant in the pet shop for a cure or your vet.

  7. More than likely it was a tick filled with blood which made it bigger, its not a bad idea to call a vet and ask if she needs a shot, sometimes a tick can give a dog a deadly virus.

  8. If it was embedded in her skin, it was probably a dog tick.  It's nothing to worry about.  Just make sure that when you take them out in the future you use tweezers and get the entire head out.  After that you should flush them down the toilet.  If you try to smush it... you will fail, they have an exoskeleton.  Although... one time I jumped on one and it exploded blood all over my carpet.  It's definitely not a flea if it's a "fairly large bug."

Ticks get bigger as they suck more blood from their host.

  9. most probably a tick i bough some equipment for my dog for safe dealing with ticks. u should burn the tick wright away and be sure its dead
