heading upstream relative to still water. How about if the boat were heading downstream?

  2. Upstream:

    Total net speed of boat = 5-3 = 2 m/s

    2m/s (30s) = 60 meters

    Downstream:

    Total net speed of boat = 5+3 = 8 m/s

    8m/s (30s) = 240 meters

    No current:

    5m/s (30s) = 150 meters

    yay!
