    Where Eagles Dare

It's World War II. The Allies mount a mission to rescue General Carnaby, the American brain behind the 'Second Front' - which will all but win the war for the allies. General Carnaby was shot down behind enemy lines, and has been taken for interrogation to the "Schloss Adler" - loosely translated to 'The Castle of the Eagle". British Intelligence have to rescue him before he is 'broken' and the entire Allied war effort is hampered. A team of seven men is chosen. Six British, and one American Ranger. The team is led by Major Smith. The American is Lt Morris s******r. The men are dropped into the mountain ranges close to the Schloss Adler. The radio operator is killed in the drop - appears to have been murdered on closer inspection. No-one can be trusted. The team make their way down the mountain where they make contact with an Allied agent. Another team member is killed. The group is exposed and captured - and Smith and s******r are seperated from the others. They subsequently escape after killing their captors and fake their deaths. They then enter the Schloss Adler by riding on the roof of a cable car (which is the only access to the castle except for a helicopter). The three remaining members of the team are brought up to the castle by cable car. Smith and s******r then disable the helicopter within the castle grounds, and then find their way to the room where General Carnaby is being interrogated. The three other prisoners are brought in, and it turns out they are double agents - germans. Smith and s******r then come out of hiding, and Smith takes control of the meeting. He claims to be Captain Johann Smith of the German army. He also exposes General Carnaby as an imposter, and claims the three 'double' agents are in fact British spies. He proves his identity, and then proceeds to prove the identity of the three 'British Agents'. He gets the three agents to write down the names and addresses of all their contacts within MI6. Smith takes the three notebooks on which the names and addresses are written, and then turns on the Germans. The whole scenario had been a plot by MI6 to uncover all the moles within its ranks. Major Smith was indeed a British agent, and the three double agents were who they claimed to be. Smith and s******r escape, along with the girl who helped them get into the castle. They take the three double agents along with them, to be tried for treason in England. The three agents are subsequently killed during the escape. The Schloss Adler is virtually destroyed as the result of s******r's sabotage attempts. Smith, s******r, Mary (the girl) and Heidi (the contact) escape the germans, and make it to a small airfield where they are picked up by a British bomber.
