I'm looking for a book with a diverse cast of characters, preferably in the young adult category. I'm totally uninterested in the books that are circulating right now and think that even though these book have racially diverse characters, their personalities are too similar. Can someone help me out, please?

  1. I am a huge fan of the Harry Potter books, precisely because of the character diversity. Each of Harry's classmates have a distinct personality and background, to the point that there could conceivably be a book about each one of their stories if JKR felt like writing one. They are also racially diverse (it is London-based, after all).

  2. Dunno but you might like Lord of the Rings.. tons of characters

Or my old time favorite: Island of the Blue dolphins

Unfortunately, the latter contains only a few characters and some of it are dogs. But it is an enchanting story of an Indian girl left behind to fend for herself. Confused on what she should do. Would she create weapons to fight for herself or would she follow their customs?

  3. It's not a young adult book, but Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts has a diverse set of characters and is excellently written. It is the story of an escaped Australian convict/junkie as he travels through the social levels of India, befriending people from cholera-ridden slum dwellers to elite foreign gang leaders.

If you are willing to explore the world of non-super-hero comic books, you may like The Sandman by Neil Gaiman or Watchmen by Alan Moore. The Sandman is a fantasy comic with a huge cast and a lot of historical mini-stories, and Watchmen is an anti-hero classic about the strengths and weaknesses of normal people, Superman wannabes, and humanity as a whole.

  4. You want a book with a diverse set of characters? I got one that puts Mark Twain together with Richard Francis Burton.

Riverworld- It focuses on an afterlife where everyone is resurrected along the river banks.

( To Your Scattered Bodies Go) That's the first book It's written by Philip Jose Farmer

The Long Walk- Focuses on a sort of terrible game by Stephen King, he uses a penname for it. It's kind of a dystopian society.

    (He uses Richard Bachman)

World War Z- Focuses on a zombie apocalypse through the eyes of several different characters from around the world

(If you want to narrow your view to a specific genre and all that you can just message me or sumthing, I'm actually making a list of books for me to read right now, I've currently got 24.

  5. It's an adult book but it's good:

    Seven Types of Ambiguity

    by Elliot Perlman.
