A brilliant 2012 season for Rory McIlroy and what lies ahead next year
For Rory McIlroy, this season has been just marvellous. His performances on the field have been simply stunning.
He has blossomed off the field as well. He found a new girl friend – the Danish Tennis star, Caroline Wozniacki. It seems that all is going in the right direction for him.
The current world number one started off his season brilliantly, with a second place finish at the World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship, which was followed by a victory at the Honda Classic.
Another third place at the WGC Cadillac and it seemed as if he is going to have a hot season. However, the moment he entered the field at the Masters, his performances declined.
McIlroy regained his composure after the British Open and won the PGA Championship with a margin of seven strokes.
2012 was the season that matured him as player and as a human being as well. Rory has seen the highs and the lows as a player in just a few years. He knows what it takes to be a champion now.
Recently, he signed a multi-million dollar deal with Nike, but it was his pairing with Tiger Woods in the FedEx Cup that helped him grow as a player.
Rory also managed to achieve the feat of Donald’s 2011 season. He won the tour money lists on both the European and the PGA Tours.
With 2012 season now over, and Rory off to vacations, he knows that he set his standard very high. Moreover, in order to achieve them, he would need to be very focused throughout the course of the next season.
Considering the way he performed in 2012, it seems that he is on his way to write his name among the greats of golf. Stars are certainly shining brightly for the Irishman, as he plans to shift over to the States permanently.
Although he missed the cut at the Hong Kong Open, but the top ranked player is flying high with confidence after this year’s performances.
A good start to the 2013 season would be the key for Rory and, with the way things are for the Irishman, it seems that 2013 will bring more laurels for the man from Belfast.
The only thing that is left this season is the Race to Dubai Championship and, with the form he is in, it is difficult to pick out any other player as the expected victor.
"I'm not sure if the energy in trying to sew-up the Race to Dubai and competing in the FedEx Cup has taken more out of me than maybe I thought, because while I am feeling OK physically, mentally I feel really tired," he has admitted.
"When you achieve something that you want to achieve so bad, like the Race to Dubai, there is a letdown considering there are still two events remaining".
2012 was a tiring year for Rory but he plans to schedule his next season in way that would feature him in almost all of the top ranked tournaments.
