A broken heart and a broken shoulder – Mark Webber
Red Bull’s Mark Webber had the best season of his career this year as he led the drivers’ standings for most of the season but finished in 3rd place behind Fernando Alonso in 2nd place in the drivers’ standings unfortunately while his
teammate Sebastian Vettel took the glorious drivers’ title.
The Aussie driver recently released his new book titled Up Front: A Season to Remember and revealed that he had a broken shoulder once again with four of the most important races left in the 2010 Formula 1 season.
After Mark Webber returned to his home town following the Singapore Grand Prix this season, he stated in his book that he had a mountain bike accident once again and this time suffered a “skier’s fracture” which is not a very serious injury but difficult
to treat as it is deep in the joint.
Earlier in 2008, Mark broke his right leg in a mountain bike crash but hid from his team Red Bull back then. Webber did the exact same thing this season and even though his injuries were fully healed, he had to miss the post-season Abu Dhabi Pirelli test
session as he had to go through a surgery.
Webber once again decided to keep it from his team boss Christian Horner and only Roger Clearly and FIA’s doctor Gary Hartstein knew about this injury. He received cortisone injections from the doctor in Japan and Korea in order to carry on with less pain.
Reports stated that Mark’s surgery was due to his 2009 pre-season breaks but the Aussie revealed in his book that it was a completely different injury and he had to bear it until the end of the 2010 Formula 1 season.
However, this statement is a sort of a justification by the Aussie driver for his crucial loss but one has to admit that it was Mark Webber’s own fault and he shouldn’t have tried something as risky as mountain biking. Mark Webber was leading the championship
before he received this injury and was ahead Alonso by 21 points. He blew his own chances of winning the title and it is quite unprofessional and immature of Mark to do such a thing to his team and himself.
