now i am pretty sure he still wouldnt do it, and i believe he is shocked that i am considering it,, but i said ok, as long as i can wear a mouth gaurd... he is about 8 months into Krav... and before he started taking it we were over at a buddies house of mine (after we went out drinking) that i was taking MT (muay thia) with at the time, i was too drunk and d**n near knocked my buddie out, it all ended with a handshake... but i think he has the wrong idea or what i consider "sparring" (around 50-60%)... but i could see it being very bad for me if it went to the ground if i were wearing boxing gloves(but i think i could still control it), its hypothetical, but his 8 months, against my 6 or 7 years (albiet, spread out over many years), i believe i could still control the situation, and keep it from getting out of hand , even with bulky gloves on... how do you see it playing out? dont mean to ask a who wouild win ? tarzan, or the gorrilla, but this is something i was pondering...

  1. If you're trying to 'level' the physical field to the point where one will be taking more serious injuries than the other, in place of some apparent difference in skill?

That's not sparring, that's a fight. It's also the kind of c**p that gives a legitimate martial artist a bad name.

    Grow up.

  2. I take Krav Maga, have been for about 1 1/2 years. I would say things depend on the rules layed out for your sparring session. If you were my friend I wouldn't want to fight you bare knuckle. I believe you are a tough guy have to be, to be in Muay Thai.  It makes it easier and faster for me bare knuckle.  Obviuosly your friends choice of "weapons" would be limited because it would be a rule based environment.

A word to the Kempo guy. It's not cheating if you win the fight. Last time I checked nobody follows the rules in the real world. If you want rules stick to your sports based environment.

  3. Some buddy .s***w fair or evening things up .The bare fist hits with almost double the foot pounds per square inch of impact and he knows it.

  4. I like bareknuckle cause its stronger and I think, faster. But if you are gonna kill him if you don't have gloves on id take the gloves. It'd suck to put a best friend in hospital where u didn't where gloves.

  5. Atleast get him to wear MMA gloves.

  6. You might go with a compremise, and get a pair of open finger foam sparring golves. While these are not the same weight or do not offer the same protection of boxing gloves, they do absorb some of the force and definetly help in the not getting cut demartment. There are some fairly inexpensive ones out there.

The open fingers would give you better control and allow you some flexibility if it went to the ground, yet still provide a measure of protection for him.

Sorry but this is the best I can come up with as a compremise. Just personely if he wants to test you I don't feel you should be required to wear anything you don't normally wear. If he knows your better maybe he should ask for light contact. Not trying to be a smart aleck or nothing, he just shouldn't bite off more then he can chew.

I've been in the feeling too good from drinking to have enough sense not to show another drunk guy some of my stuff lol. I can sympithyze.

  7. krav maga isnt all that great on the ground. actually alot of it (if its real krav) is about cheating lol...they dont give a d**n about rules.

i'm sure your buddy would in sparring. but..dude boxing gloves do NOT protect his face...they protect your hands!!!! ...he's fooling himself if he thinks he is really going to have much of an advantage...other than gripping.

you can still grip with gloves on to an extent. most bjj guys use a monkey grip(thumbless) anyway..so you dont need your thumb. (personally i use my thumb because it feels more secure to me)

in a sparring setting, i think you will effectively "murderize" him. krav maga isnt a sparring system. it is a self defense system. big big difference.

get into self defense scenarios...he may have the upper hand. say gun defense, knife defense..etc. because they train that way. muay thai doesn't.

so i think in said situation you will win...actually id say you will win fairly easily gloves or no gloves. because he's probably not all that terrific on the ground.

thats a big common misconception about gloves..everyone thinks it lessens the impact. it actually enhances the impact because your weapon is heavier than without gloves. ...they are designed to protect you hands, not his head. if he needs protection, give him some head gear...that is designed to protect his head.

in this and so may other situations, i say its the scenario that will dictate the winner just as much as skill. if you put a bjj 10th dan in a muay thai match where he can't grapple...he will get killed. put a muay thai champ in a bjj tourny where he cant strike...he will get broken.

  8. why dont you just over analyze it and kill all of the fun.

If you think you can beat his a$$ go for it. if you think your going to get your a$$ beat, then just take it like a man.

  9. if you can, instead of getting wearing boxing gloves, get mma gloves. they are to protect your knuckels and they still hurt a lot...

  10. Why do it at all?  You have nothing to gain and everything to lose including a friend.  It sounds like you get enough sparing in now without having to find people or friends to spare with.  If it turns out badly for him you risk losing a friend and maybe making some of your other friends unhappy with you as well.  If it turns out bad for you then you will be embarrassed.  I once had a co-worker that wanted to spire me and I kept refusing.  He had started taking Wing Chung but was just a beginner.  Everyone else kept egging him on and dissing me for not sparing him.  I finally acceded and of course he did terrible and I did not even put much effort into it or hurt him in any way.  The problem was that in everyones' eyes after that I was viewed as a little bit of a bully.  Its really pretty much a no-win situation for you and I would avoid it.

  11. if you trust your buddy not to seriously injure you, i say go for it.

if you win with the gloves on, you'll be able to brag about that **** for years to come.
