Question:

A bug bite left my hand swollen?

I guess I might have gotten a spider bite yesterday or something but today I noticed my right hand was swollen. When I make a fist, you can't really see my middle, ring, and pinky knuckles. The only visible bite I see on my right hand is on my middle finger right below the knuckle. But the area that is swollen is the top part of my right hand so I think that just might be a regular mosquito bite. It's not really bothering me but I don't want it to be something serious because I am going camping on Monday. It doesn't hurt but it does itch. I havn't gotten any treatment on it except some anti-itching cream. Is this something that I really have to make a trip to the doctor for? My parents have a really tight schedule so I don't want to make it a bigger deal than it is.

  1. You might be able to treat it at home.  First off apply some ice for the swelling.  The fact that you're itching indicates an almost certain allergic reaction, take some Benadryl and that should take care of it.  If it doesn't and the swelling becomes worse, the hand becomes hot or increasingly painful then a doc visit is indeed necessary.
