I was desperate for a job, so I went into this Mexican restaurant to ask for a job. They didn't have an application; they just told me to write my name on a piece of paper. They "hired" me the next day, but required no proof to work in the US, no SSN, no form of ID, there were no papers to sign, nothing. The owner said they only required one week notice. I just found a full-time job elsewhere after only a couple days working there, and gave him a full week notice. Now the owner doesn't want to pay me for the one day I worked off training. I don't care much about the money (it's less than $20 anyway) but I'm concerned about illegals taking jobs away from legals. I know some of the illegals, and I hate to take their jobs away, but at the same time, I know people in other countries that try so hard to come here legally. I don't want them coming only to find no work because illegals have all the jobs. Who do I report this to?

  1. Better call the Secret Police.

  2. How did this business file your payroll taxes without your SS number? That's another thing you should be concerned about. Contact the wage and hour commission for your state.

  3. The Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS).
