  1. you mean fell off. I would take it some where. The place i get my stuff hemmed up, only charges a dollar to re sew buttons on. A dollar is worth not s******g it up.

  2. Because cashmere is a fairly fragile fabric, I'm going to lean to letting a pro do it for you -- it should only be a few bucks at most.  Ask if there's a reason to use a "backer button" (aka "stay button") on the dress -- it helps take the stress of the button from the fabric.  (It's just a little clear plastic disk with a couple of holes, sewn on with the button.)

It's a whole lot easier to resew a button than it is to repair the fabric and then resew the button.

But there's certainly no reason why you shouldn't learn to sew on your own buttons on other things, and maybe on this dress, too:

Here's the best video I could find of sewing a button on with a backer button:

(you may have to search the site for "button" or "leather", as the gentleman is sewing a shank button with a backer button onto a leather coat.  You won't need the pliers he's using for the demo with normal fabrics.  Actually, I rarely even need a thimble for sewing buttons.
