i have a window unit that is on the second floor and it keeps icing up on me i cleaned the filter, and both coils real good. but it keeps icing up. i had a friend come over with a leak detector and found no leak. i keep it running around 68 degrees i changed out the run capacitor and i really cant tell if the compressor is running. if the compressor is not running could this be the cause.

  1. Run the fan ONLY for 15 minutes to thaw her out.If it's not an airflow problem(filter, dirty coil, blower on wrong speed),she's probably low of refrigerant.

If the pump is not running she can't freeze up.

The metering devise could be restricted but less likely.

It could be a tiny leak is the reason that your friend did not locate it.

  2. I manage a private vacation rentals in the Fl Keys, cleaning the coils is most likely your problem. Go to a local A/C company and purchase a quart of "Coil Cleaner", even after your deep cleaning, watch what comes out. If the coils look clean on the outside but the air is blocked even the slightest from the inside of the coils, FREEZER BLOCK! Of course make sure the filter is replaced after this is done. This should do it.
