A car 4 cylinder or v6 but either way with a kick and easy to tune?

Question

I am looking for a car 4cylinder or v6 but either way I wanted a car that is easy and cheap to tune. Also I wanted a coupe but I could get sedan. I was looking to spend 3-4 gran$ kind of wanted a car that has good or decent mpg.

(optional)- My dad kind of wanted it to be GM

well 4cyl... stuff tends to be cheaper to tune... but if your looking for GM your only real options in that price range are gonna be caveleirs and camaros...

Ecotec motors are decent but unless you plan on some serious mods the sunfire/Cav stuff just isn't that impressive...

The v-6 camaro is at least rear drive but aftermarket parts are some what limited I believe...

lEverything that I have read says a 4 cylinder is easier (and cheaper) to modify and tune.  You can probably do quite a bit for $3k with a Chevy Cobalt.
