My car stuck in trafiic jam for 1 hour. Is there a formula to calculate how much fuel would have been wasted ? Is there a gauge or meter has been invented to measure the wasted?

  1. All of it since it isn't moving it is all a waste.

  2. There is a device just behind the steering wheel (on most cars) its called a key turn it to the off position, when you do fuel comsumption falls to zero.

  3. I don't know, but that's a situation where a hybrid would be an excellent vehicle to have.  It would shut down and not use any power except when it's actually moving.  In stop-and-go traffic it would even regain some of the power used through regenerative braking.  I'll definitely be looking at hybrid and electric vehicles when the time comes to trade mine in.

I don't know of a simple way to check fuel consumption when the car isn't moving, other than to estimate it by looking at the fuel gauge.  However, I occasionally check my overall gas mileage and that's pretty easy.  I just zero out the trip odometer when I fill it up.  The next time I fill the tank, I write down the mileage on the receipt.  Divide the miles by the number of gallons and you have your average mpg since the last fill-up.

  4. a 4.1 litter 6cylinder with 500 holley carby would only use about a litter

  5. The easiest way to find out how much fuel your car waste in a traffic jam, is to fill your tank, get stuck in a traffic jam for an hour and then refill your tank.

or you could just fill your tank, let it idle for an hour and then refill it.

  6. Depends on if you turn your car off while waiting or if you leave it idle.

To find a formula to figure your gas usage,

Find average R.P.M while normal drive and notate gas milage.

Measure the average R.P.M while stuck in a traffic jam and the basic math to find relitive difference.

    40 MPH  average R.P.M 2000 -20 miles gallon.

    4 MPH    average R.P.M 500-

    You get the Idea.

Or you can go to a part store and buy the guage to meter your gas milage and fuel usage stats that connects to a wire on your cars computer  for 100 bucks or so.

  7. it depends what kind of car you have but you probably wasted 3 gallons

  8. stuck for one hour ..wow. that sucks.

    i have no idea buddy.

  9. If you shut off the engine then none.  If you had it in drive, rev-ed it up to 4000rpm, and kept your foot on the brake then a lot of gas and a new transmission.

  10. depends on what kind of car. i let my 4 cylinder run for 6 HOURS and it only used bout 2 gallons.

  11. If the traffic doesnt move often.

    I'd turn the car off.

    So no gas is wasted.

    Just turn the engine off.

Leave the radio on,you need something to entertain you!

    :]

  12. there is no formula that i know of but at idle its not using much and obviously it depends on the car but I would say maybe an 1/8 of a gallon.
