I am trying to change my major, but I'm having problems trying to figure out exactly what I need to change it to. I want to have a career in advertising, and help to create the advertisements that are seen on tv, magazines, and sometimes on the internet. I have lots of tv commercial ideas, but I don't know where to begin. If anybody knows what this would boil down to, could you please give me some advice so I can begin making the change? Thanks.

  1. You should change to marketing.

  2. Okay...here goes.  You may not like what you hear, but I'm going to say it anyway.

If you truly want to go into the advertising field and want to take the fast track to doing  great work, you need to go to a school like Miami Ad School (Miami, Florida),or  the  Portfolio Center (Atlanta).  There are other schools like this across the country, but these are two of the best.

You can go to a 4-year university and major in advertising or marketing, but be VERY careful which school you choose.  Many universities have no idea what to teach kids on how to get a job in advertising. (By the way, in the creative side of advertising, your portfolio is EVERYTHING.)

What sone people do is get a 4-year degree from a university, and then go the Portfolio Center or Miami Ad School for the finishing two-year program.  They teach you how to create great advertising.  How to take those ideas in your head and turn them into print, tv and radio.

    Good luck!
