Consider the following reaction 2 Fe + 3 Mg2+ Â 2 Fe3+ + 3 Mg

The half reaction for the reduction in this reaction is 1) _______

A) Mg  Mg2+ + 2 e- B) Fe  Fe3+ + 3 e-

C) Fe3+ + 3 e- Â Fe D) Mg2+ + 2 e- Â Mg

i dont get this. why is D. I thought it would be C b/c the rxn would be an anode and anode is a reduction rxn.

  1. Just remember LEO A lion says GER...C.  That is L=loss, E= electrons, O= oxidation A = anode : G = Gain, E = electrons, R = reduction and C = cathode:  Leo says GerC because he just ate big bird and has to belch.

  2. I'll be back in a minute.  I'm taking a breather.
