What benefit could this be for them. I am not sending money back because that check may not clear.

  1. Huge scam take the check to the police!

  2. scam

  3. Huge scam! Call the cops.

What'll happen is you'll cash the check. Then you'll write them a check. Theirs will come back as either canceled or NSF. They'll still, however, have your check for a thousand bucks. Your loss.

  4. That is a scam.  You will mail then $1,000 MONEY ORDER, then their $3,000 check will bounce.  You will be out $1,000.

  5. This is a scam. Do not do it! The check will in fact bounce and you will be stuck with bank fees and having to pay for your mistake.

  6. It was smart of you to doubt them! Exactly as you said, how could that help the charity? This is a pretty stupid scam.

In the old days, people who ran scams were called "confidence men" (Hence the expression to "con" someone into doing something). That is because they would ask their victims to send them back a certain amount as proof that they "can have confidence in you" or trust you with the great sum of money they said they were going to give you. The famous "Nigerian scams" work pretty much the same way, only they are much more sophisticated. I received a letter with one once, and twice have received such scams by email. Never "bite," no matter how tempting!

Here is an interesting site about such scams.

  7. Spells SCAM to me. Don't even touch it.

  8. This is NOT from a charity.  A SCAM sent you a FRAUDULENT check.  AFTER you send the $1,000 back, the check will bounce and your bank will take the full $3,000 from your account.

Note: The check may APPEAR to clear, but it WILL be returned.

  9. DONT CASH THE CHECK THEY WILL GET UR BANK INFO SHRED THE CHECK. HAVE U EVER HEARD OF A CHARITY GIVING MONEY?

  10. SCAM.

The is fake, though I am sure that it looks perfectly real.  It will bounce but only after you send out the money.

  11. Please don,t cash the check its been on the news and internet

about the scam they send you check your suppose keep so much

then give some back don,t because when cash that check the bank

charge you for the check because its no good .I know it happened

to me four months ago as to our selling our van guy sent us one those

checks then when we had checked out it was no good and the guy

scam artist we had him reported to federal bureau investigation to

    investigate.

  12. People are basically greedy and stupid.......that's why you would even post a question like this.....do it and see what happens...a learning experience......

  13. Exactly, it is a scam.  A charity does not give you money. Unless you are the one they are helping.  In that case they would not ask for part of the money back.  I would not even cash the check.  Your bank will come looking for you when the check comes back as non-sufficient funds.

  14. The check will not clear and you will be out whatever your bank charges for bounced checks, about $30.

I can't believe you have not heard about this scam, it has been going on for years.

  15. Major scam!  The check will usually bounce, and you will be out $1000.  Stay away!
