A chat with Karine Icher at the Evian Masters
Karine Icher, the French player, returned to the golf scene after a break. She gave birth to a daughter, Lola in August. She was asked about the upcoming Evian Masters, her daughter and her game.
The first question was about her daughter Lola and the effect she has on Icher’s golf. She replied that her outlook on golf has changed completely and that her daughter is a very positive influence on her game.
She added that she had realised that being involved in golf and making it the focus of one’s life is wrong. It affects the game and the player comes dangerously close to a burn out. Her daughter is a welcome break from golf and Icher cherishes her for this
reason.
Her game has not been up to the mark recently. When asked about it, she said that many people did not realize that she was seven months pregnant when she was playing through that phase. Her condition put a great deal of stress on her game and technique.
She responded to the questions about her game with frankness and assured her fans that she will soon regain her form. In many observers’ opinion, her short game suffered tremendously but her long game remained unaffected.
The talk turned to the Evian Masters and the recent changes on the golf course. Being French, Icher is very proud of the tournament.
She commented that France does not have as many golf courses, as the US and therefore, the French golf community is proud to host the Evian Masters.
Talking about the changes made to the golf course, she was very satisfied with the modifications. She said that the course looks beautiful now and the new changes will make the course more exciting to play on.
Commenting on the change of status of the Evian Masters, she said that she is very proud of France. It will be rare honour for the country to host a major tournament.
She added that this step will ensure that Europe receives its share of major golf events and can now compete with the US in terms of major tournaments.
