Hey.. I really want a guitar, but my mom doesn't have a lot of money to buy me one. So I'd like to know if anyone knows of any places in the Portland Metro area to find a low priced guitar. I could teach myself if I had to, I'm pretty good with instruments.. but if you know of any good cheap places to find GOOD guitar lessons, it will be greatly appreciated.

  1. Call Showcase Music and Sound in Portland (503)231-7027

They are an old established music store and have many used

    and "renovated" equipment.

They claim to be the largest dealer in the area and do have nice new guitars for beginners at reasonable prices.

Also check their web page - look them up as: showcase music,Portland.

There are many books to get you started.

The best one (in my opinion) is called:

How To Play The Guitar by Roger Evans.

Cost: $10.95 and most bool stores have it or could order it

    for you.

    Good Luck in your search.

  2. Have you got any good second hand shops? They always have really good guitars. Usually all they need is a set of new strings which are really cheap.

As for lessons, I'm wary of anyone too cheap. I prefer to recommend qualified teachers who tend to be expensive. If you're looking for technique to get you started, you can always find a good teacher via the music department at your University, and just get say 4 lessons in a row to make sure you have the positioning right and the basic technique down before you go it alone. Then perhaps check back in a few months down the line.

    Good luck.
