  1. Well, before the blood tests and X-ray reports would have been a step in the right direction.

"Chris has been bitten by another child, but seems to be fine."

  2. Ok is this from point of view of the educator? If so then the child's parent should have been called BEFORE any xrays and when child was on way to hospital! Must have been bad bite to need blood and xrays done so really parents should already be aware...if not then the setting is really failing in parent rights and parent partnership!!!

BEst way to inform this is initially over phone and then ask to speak to them in person....get an accident report filled in and parents to sign---letting them know that something will be done about this to make sure it doesnt happen again!

  3. How did you get blood and x-ray reports without the parents permission??  This also must have been quite a bite in order to require blood tests and x-ray.  When I taught preschool, we informed the parents right away.  But it was our policy that the child who bit their child would not be revealed unless the skin was broken.

  4. I would think that the school would have procedure, however, you need to follow up and make sure they follow procedure.  If you have a class list, then phone or check to see if the parents pick up their child.

You may want to ask the teacher if this is habitual behavior for this child or a one time incident.  This information may impact how you handle it.

  5. I think that there has to be more observation on the childs behavior and your child.  The observation has to be done by the care provider and find out what is going on that the other child bite your child.  Usually children will react out of frustration, and sometimes out of as a defense.  Children will react in this maner becasue they can not comunicate at an early age, therfore biting makes it easier.  An observation has to be done and take apropriate actions.  I think that the children were just playing and One took the other's toy or something.  Its not nessesary to call the parent right away.  Again observations have to be done to proceed with the right actions without bothering the parents.  If sharing is the fact wich I think it is, becasue most young children do not understand the concept of sharing until age 3 or 4 years old.  It's impossible for children to understand that, but there are some activities that caregivers have so that they can practive, sharing and interaction with other children, best of luck to you and your young child.

  6. The parents should have been told immediately!!!

The school/montessori should have had a plan in

action BEFORE this happens. Who is running this

    place? Very irresponsible.

I worked at licensed preschool after highschool

and this was common in toddler room.

We would tell the parents of bitten child what had

happened before they reached their child. Simple as

that. If medical care was necessary it was immediately

    provided.

  7. first , speak politely, ask about them, their health ,etc. , etc.  .

second, tell  "there are some times when every one has to lose something.

third, tell "it happens with many many people in the world."

fourth, tell "but some are even fortunate "

fifth, tell "sir / mam , your child (his name ) has unfortunately been bitten by another one in a montessori.

sixth, tell "but , by god's grace, the blood/X -ray reports are fine

seventh, tell "don't worry , your child is fine."

eighth, tell "his performance is (so and so)"

    ninth, tell "so good bye"

tenth, tell to your self "phew, thank goodness.

  8. They should have been informed the day of the incident.  However, since the event is in the past...the best thing to do is to talk directly to them.  Some schools actually keep "bite reports."

    Be well.

  9. The school administrator should have informed them of their child's actuation, nevertheless, you may request them to inform the parents because i am sure that they, the parents would gladly want to discipline their son so that no further incident might happen to anybody else.

  10. I have to agree with everybody else.  The parent should have been told immediately.  An incident report should have been done immediately as well.  I am a little confused, though, as to how the blood and x-ray reports were done without the parent knowing.  If the center you work at is licensed, they should be careful.  The parents could easily call the state licensing/board of health people who normally do your inspections, and tell them what happened.(not being told/no incident report)  That is cause for a check up visit.  Incident reports are your friend.  Here's what our looks like that we use:

You can search for the state you are in to get a view of yours, if you don't know what they look like.  good luck!

  11. How did you get blood/x-ray reports without the parent knowing?  Sounds like the parents already know.  You're ok.
