My son has been diagnosed with Austism Spectrum Disorder. He needs speech therapy and help with fine motor skills, but there seem to be few programmes available to help with the cost. I want to vote for the party that offers the most support for families - Liberal or Labor?

  1. I'm not in the U.K., but if it were an American election I would put more emphasis on what the candidate thought about children with autism then what was in his or her party's platform.  If the difference between parties on this issue is significant, I think it would be in the papers or on televison, and you would know it.

My best wishes to you and your son!

  2. I assume your in Australia, as we have an election on the 24th November.

While I can not tell you which party to vote for, I would lean towards the party that genuinely offers support to families, and especially those who care for the disabled.

Unfortunately the Government do no realize just how much the families who care for a disabled family member do, and while support services are getting better, they still have long way to go. Until all political parties recognize and support these families, we have to struggle on, working very as advocates and carers.

    Good luck
