A city that has been improved????

Question

I'm looking for a place that was quite run-down, and now it's, or it is in the process of becoming a much better place. I've looked at the London Docklands, which was an old port, and then it was regenerated into Canary Wharf etc, are there any other areas/towns/cities like this??

Liverpool is a work in progress, with a lot of improvements being made.
