A closer look at the top five Formula One drivers...
The 2010 Formula One season is about to reach its conclusion after having so far presented sixteen exciting races. However, as the end nears, the tension and heat of the battle keeps escalating especially among the top five drivers and top three teams, battling
for the title.
Looking at the way the season has unfolded so far, one knows that the end is also going to be just as uncertain as the entire season has been.
So, making a bet this season is quite a bold thing. Go for it only if you are brave or rich or you have the crystal ball, otherwise even the race gurus have given up predicting, for so many have already gone wrong.
The top five men in the Drivers’ Championship are all equally determined and adamant to keep the fight going on till the end of the rope. With three more races to go and 75 points to play off, all are cautious not to miss the opportunity of even a single
point.
At this part of the season, a factor that could play a key role in getting to the top is experience. This not only means the duration of being behind the wheels but also the experience of enduring pressure and stress.
Of the top five racers, three have been world champions before as well. The Ferrari driver, Fernando Alonso has bagged two championships while both the McLaren men, Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button have bagged one championship each. On the other hand, this
kind of sizzling contention is a comparatively new experience for the two Red Bull drivers.
Another important factor is the patience and calmness that drivers would show on the track now. The past few races have seen Hamilton drop from first slot in the Drivers’ Championship to his current fourth, due to his over enthusiastic and risky driving.
The man who is supposed to have the best control over his nerves and reflexes is Button. But, his current situation does not allow him to drive with the same calmness as that may cost him points. He currently stands lowest among the top five drivers and
needs some quick points, actually a race win to bounce back in the contention.
Moreover, another factor here is the cars of the top three teams. McLaren does not have any advantage of pace over the other two teams. Even though they are hoping that their upcoming updates in Korea would improve their pace but it would only be ‘improved’
not dominate the other two teams.
On the other hand, Ferrari and Red bull have a far better pace which has already been demonstrated at a number of events earlier this season. Therefore, both the British drivers would need to get the best out of their cars with their flawless driving.
The biggest threat to the title in this situation would be Alonso. His nerves are well tuned for such pressure and that he has proved several times. Not to forget here is his victory of 2006, when he had dashed the hardest racer on track, Michael Schumacher
to finish at the top.
The two times champion possesses the pace of the car as well as skills of a great contender, so he is no doubt the man to watch out.
While talking about the two Red Bull men, Webber no doubt seems to be in a great form but this season is a test of much more than just ‘form’. His current form is actually due to the advantage of the car he has; otherwise this tight situation might gulp
him anytime.
His teammate, Sebestian Vettel has though demonstrated some great races earlier but now that he has done a few mistakes, his confidence might have shattered to a large extent. Also, this kind of tension and strain might not let the true driver come out of
him.
Still, there is a week to go before the next round. So, keep your fingers crossed as you wait to see your favourite stars dazzle on the track.
