  1. Assuming two equal strips:

    The bar bends.

    The two metals have different

    coefficients of linear expansion.


  2. The expansion rate of Aluminium is about twice that of Iron.

    The heated bi-metal strip will therefore bend to the side on which the Iron is fixed.
