    It's a unit of electrical charge.  It's also equal to the amount of charge carried by a one amp current in one second.

    To think of it in terms of the traditional water analogy:

    Imagine a river flowing at a constant rate.  The amount of electrical charge (in coulombs) is analogous to the amount of water (in liters) that goes by every second.  The rate at which the water flows (in liters per second) is analogous to the rate at which the current flows (in amperes, which are equivalent to coulombs per second).  The slope of the riverbed could be thought of as the voltage, where an increased slope (or voltage) results in a greater flow (or current), assuming all others things remain the same.

    Other units for electrical charge include the faraday and the Planck charge.

    1 coulomb = 1.03642686 × 10^-5 faradays

    1 coulomb = 5.331781 × 10^17 Plank charges
