A couple Navy questions?

Is being on an AA(or machine guns) realistic? I sort of want to man a gun on a warship but I get the feeling that, that is more of a WWII sort of thing. And how would I go about doing that?

  1. It is sort of a WWII thing, they still have them, but you have to go through special training, and the chances that you will ever use it are slim to none, sorry to damper your dreams...

  2. The GM and FTG rates do that now.

    Look into those rates.

  3. Only the smallest vessels have a gun of any kind which is manually controlled on deck; most are remotely controlled from inside the ship.  You definitely want a Gunner rating if you want to work with them, but the chance you'll get to manually shoot at aircraft is pretty small.

  4. your in the navy there's a lot of guns to man.

  5. i think you`ll find that most modern warships have their guns and all other defence systems manned by computers these days. they still need loading though !!

apply for a job as an armourer .

    good luck !

  6. All of our battleships were decommissioned years ago.  Now, it's the high tech world of Harpoon and Tomahawk missiles.  The old 20mm and 40mm and even the 5-inch guns are a thing of the past.  I'd visit an old battleship to get the feel for one, like USS North Carolina at Wilmington, USS Alabama in Mobile or USS Texas in Corpus Christi (not sure about location).
