Also I was wondering how they do housing on the base for married couples with no children? Any info you have would be wonderful since i am very new to this and my boyfriend doesnt have the answers (he didnt ask the recruiter about my cat or the housing!)

  1. Ok, for the pet part first, YES. If you live on base, you must register your pet with the local Vet on post.

Second part the housing. When he gets to his PERMANENT duty station, he goes to the local Housing Office, and gets himself put on the Housing list. Depending on his rank, and how many others are on the list, depends on when he would get on base housing.

If he elects to live off base, then he would draw BAH w/dependent rate to assist in the paying of rent for him and you.

  2. Yes you can take your cat. You will have to apply for housing. Depending on the duty station there may be a wait list. It could be 1-12 months. Or you could luck out and get right on. You will only qualify for a one bedroom apartment, duplex. If there is a wait list you will have to live off post until housing is available. They will give you BAH each month for this. If he joins and when you find out your duty station, you can go to military.com. Click on the finance tab, click on pay charts, click on 2008 Basic Housing Allowance, click on 2008 BAH with dependents. Find your duty station and his rank. That is the amount that you will receive. If you ever have question you can always go to the Fort's website and check things out. Or call the housing office. Best of luck!

  3. you wont be able to go with him they are barracks for the soldiers (thats england but your in america right then you wont be able to bring the cat)

  4. The pet really depends on the housing.  Some allow them and some don't.  If you don't want to live on base, you can find your own place near the base and you will recieve BAH (housing allowance) for the area he is stationed.  It doesn't matter if you have children or not to rate base housing.  It will determine the size of the house you get though.

  5. Yes when you get married you can take your cat with you.  There is housing available that allows pets, while there is others that do not.  Depending on where you go if it is to a OCONUS (Outside Continental US) then the cat may need to go through quarantine.  The plane ticket for the cat there is out of pocket, same with quarantine costs at first.

You will be assigned 2 bedroom housing it doesn't matter if you have children or not.

  6. most married couples without children will be given an apartment. and you can have a cat.  if you have children you should get a house.
