How do Radar Guns work that they alert the Radar Detector ahead of time giving you a chance to slow down?

Is there any way you can get away with having a laser jammer in your car in a state it's illegal in or will the police officer immediately know what's going on the second his laser gives him Null results?

  1. they can detect the radar because the gun shoots out radio waves over a large radius where as a laser it a direct shot at a target, like a bullet. The radio waves bounce off most objects and will reach the detector before the gun can get a return on your speed. Usually any kind of jammer is illegal...in most states you can legally detect police radar but as long as you are not s******g with it and jamming it you should be fine.

  2. Radar detectors detect the radio frequency (RF) signals emitted by police radar guns. Radar guns bounce this signal off your vehicle and measure the return signal to determine how fast your vehicle is moving. Radar detectors can detect the signal as it bounces off of other vehicles or trees, or as it bounces through buildings or canyons.

Contrary to the previous post, laser jammers are LEGAL in nearly every state (see source, below). Laser jammers DO NOT emit a radio frequency to jam, so they are NOT prohibited under federal laws prohibiting radar jammers.

Laser jammers make the laser gun appear to be malfunctioning. Laser guns can be 'quirky' sometimes, even when no laser jammer is in use. So when the speed reading comes up null, the officer is probably going to do a quick inspection of the gun to try to figure out the problem. During this time, you have checked your speed and turned off the jammer. The officer might then point the laser gun back at your vehicle and read your new, adjusted speed.

Some of the latest police laser guns can detect scrambling codes emitted by older laser jammers. If you decide to use a laser jammer, look for one that uses the latest technology to avoid detection of scrambling signals. I recommend the new Escort Passport ZR4 Laser Jammer. Better yet, you might want to consider the Escort Passport 9500ci, which includes both the top-rated, GPS-enabled Escort Passport radar detector PLUS the new Escort Passport ZR4 Laser Jammer.

  3. if i try to clock a car and i cant get a speed on it im stopping that car and find out whats going on.  radar detectors can give you some early warning but i like getting out and giving them the speeding tickets.  they are the ones that once you hit your radar button they start slowing way down when you know they cant see you.  also if i stop a car and they have a radar detector they will always get a ticket, because they are the ones actively trying to get away with speeding.

  4. Radar guns emit a directional RF beam of energy in the microwave frequency range; the radar detector is nothing more than a sensitive radio receiver that is tuned to detect these specific frequencies emitted by the radar gun. Although microwave beams travel in a straight line (line-of-sight), they can be bounced below the horizon/around corners by objects, allowing the detector to pick it up and alert you before you actually see the radar gun.

I doubt that you'll be able to find a laser jammer - similar to a radar "jammer", in that they're both transmitters and are subject to FCC type testing/certification. Besides, radar and laser/lidar are used only to confirm vehicle speeds. The speed on the cite is based on the officer's obervation.
