Question:

A couple questions about a tattoo?

When I go to Florida I plan on getting my first tattoo the day before we leave to go home. I am very excited about it, but worried also. I've waited a while just to make sure I really wanted a tattoo and I never stopped to think twice! I have the design picked out and everything. Now I know I can't swim or really go in the sun after that but being sunburnt will that do anything? I want a cute flower design with a couple colors, (not very big at all) just like the palm size of my hand. Can you tell me everything with the healing process, and how I will feel? I am getting the tattoo on my upper back I dont know if I should do middle right or left yet. How do I go about getting the tattoo at the shop? Do I bring my picture in that I want?

  1. Pretty much, you walk in to the shop, show the guy/girl what you want, how big you want it, and the positioning. They use a stencil made from the source picture, so they can resize and reposition it on you before you actually go under the needle.

If you get it on a shoulder-blade, upper left or right back, then it's not going to be that bad at all, at most a very mild uncomfortable sensation on certain areas. Mostly, it's just going to feel like a strong vibration.

After it's done, it might itch a little for a few days, but don't touch it unless you're applying the bacitracin or A & D ointment, whichever the tattoo artist suggests.

  2. well i got one on my upper back .

it feels like a constant sunburn but its really not that bad. it hurts the worst right on the bone but it's nothing to worry about. you will do fine. if i can do it you can..i mean i got mine a year and a half ago when i was 16!

the healing process takes a few days. it may scab over a little depending on how much you bleed. you may bleed a lot or a little(it just depends on how your body reacts to needles)

you will be fine though..i promise.

  3. Bring a picture,it will help the tattoo artist figure out what you want but do remember sometimes they may need to rearrange or do it differently. Don't pick at your new tattoo,I think that worst thing to do. If you do,infection(s) can happen.Buy a good lotion, thats basically gonna be your friend for the next 6 months while the tattoo heals. Unscented lotion...but I'm sure the tattoo artist while give you better advice. Good Luck!

  4. 1. I've never gottena  tattoo sunburnt, but I imagine that would not be very helpful to the whole process all together...I know you probably want to tan but put some SPF on to protect yourself.

    2. Definitely bring your reference picture with you, it helps the artists understand what you're looking for.

    3. I always think of my tattoos in reference to future tattoos I want to get, so you have to think of balance. I'm the type of person if I had a tattoo on one side of my shoulder I'd need one on the other..it's a weird balance thing for me.

    4. Healing depends on how you care for it. Don't go in sea salt, no direct shower sprays, no soaking, don't scratch it. I washed mine twice a day and applied ointment and let mine breath. They healed beautifully. They will itch like crazy when they heal, but like chicken pox, don't scratch!!!! It might feel like it's burning immediately after they finished it, but they did just scrape your skin with a needle LOL

Most importantly, check out the tattoo scene where you're going, you don't want a bum artist who does c**p tattoos, ask to see their portfolios, they should have them on hand. Don't be scared to ask either, this is permanent and should be as beautiful as you plan it to be.

  5. Do not get a tattoo if you are sun burnt. For one thing, it'll hurt a whole lot worse. But really your skin will be in no condition to take the ink. You will already peel from the sunburn and you will also peel form the tattoo...so I would hold off until the sunburn clears up. You will need to keep your tat covered with sunblock if you are going out in the sun because the sun will make the colors fade quickly. You will not be able to apply the sunblock for the first few days so I would keep the tattoo covered up.

You should bring in a picture of what you want to the artist. This is the best way to get exactly what you want. As for where you want to get it...I'll leave that one up to you. :)

Hope this helped and good luck!
