A day off for Tony Eccles, positive for his performance
Tony Eccles might be among the very few darts players who, after enjoying a career in PDC and not achieving their designated goals, have now decided to move to BDO.
For some, it is the right decision for Eccles, as at this stage of time, he needs to concentrate on ways through which he can sharpen his darts skill.
He has not been able to perform well in most of the tournaments that he has participated in. Apart from that, Eccles has also described some family and business reasons for his movement to BDO.
According to Eccles, “I wasn’t enjoying the PDC, it wasn’t flowing for me. When you’ve had injuries and you’re struggling and your confidence bursts, you are hitting your head off a brick wall”.
He further added that it was turning out to be a futile investment for him, as he had to spend 40 weeks away from his family, which became a hectic job for him.
In addition to this, he also said that he needs to be provide adequate time to the new business he has recently established.
Eccles believes that his business will definitely help him in sharpening and improving his skill in the game of darts also.
After announcing his seclusion from PDC, Eccles looks forward to spending more time with his wife Claire Stainsby, who is also a darts player and with his daughter Katie.
His routine, according to him, has been disturbing, as it was difficult for him to find proper time for his family. Therefore, he needs to give himself a much needed break.
It is important to mention here that Eccles might have fallen short on finding his form, but he has also enjoyed the position of being a former BDO No. 1 during the year 2005-2006.
Experts believe that family and business are secondary reasons provided by Eccles for marginalising himself from darts.
They believe that Eccles wanted to qualify for the World Cup of darts and desired to represent England in the prestigious event.
Since he could not do that, he remained with no drive to continue the game.
However, many of them also regard it as an optimistic move, as it will provide Eccles with the opportunity of bringing improvement in his game.
