A day with F1’s next potential superstar
The 2010 Formula 3 Euro Series champion gave an interview to GP Week about his dominant campaign throughout this year, his options for the future, kickboxing, flying, and saving some money to buy a ring. All these activities being initiated by just one person?
Things are just starting to get interesting.
Edoardo Mortara was greatly satisfied with the team, Signature, Volkswagen and himself with the performance. They were trying their best to achieve the title since 2007 and they have finally done it. It was an incredible experience to beat ART, who have
won the past six championships.
He was not expecting to be more dominant because he knew that ART were going to be very strong with both of their cars and because they have more championship winning experience since the past 6 years so he was not expecting his team to be so competitive.
They had a tremendous season with six wins up until now with the help of four pole positions. Signature itself was quite surprised with how they pulled things off this year.
It took a lot of pressure off him because he does not have to think about the championship anymore and he is going to Hockenheim hoping that he is able to maintain his performance to score another great result. Edo always tries his best at every track and
thinks that it is going to be good preparation for the race in Macau.
Mortara will be going to Macau as the reigning champion and hopes to win once again as he did in 2009. He finished second place in the 2008 season and believes that the team has a strong package to challenge the front running cars. He thinks that he will
probably enjoy the races more than anybody else will this year because he has had a lot of success there and is looking forward to this year’s races.
If Edo had a choice, he would have probably done something instead of the difficult season he had in GP 2 last year, as he did not want to prove or learn anything. He had many problems as he could not communicate with his engineer and had many disappointing
weekends.
The GP3 Euro Series champion has been invided to test for Audi in the DTM. He is thinking about it for next year along with the thought of joining the GP2 or Formula 1. He is really looking forward to test with DTM and try to impress the people there. Edo
revealed that he is also linked with the Volkswagen Group Family and will try to stay with them as well.
Mortara’s passion is racing but not racing in Formula 1. His aim is to be a winining racing driver and if he joins the Formula 1, he will only join with a strong team. Edo is already done with his PPL (Private Pilot Licence) but wants to get the license
that will hopefully allow him to pilot bigger planes as Aviation is his family business. Edo’s grandfather was a flying ace in World War 2 while his father and brother are both private pilots currently. If he gets the license, he will be able to fly jumbo
jets like the Airbus A380 and Boeing 747.
He is free fighting currently and has friends that are participating in the MMA (Mixed Martial Arts). Edo is training with them in order to stay fit and enhance his reflexes.
Mortara has a 350hp Seat Ibiza but drives it only on the track. His friend was selling his seat and proposed that Edo set it up. The Ibiza is not as loud as an F3 car. However, as compared to a normal car, it does make some strange noises.
Edo will keep his promise of getting engaged after winning the championship and is getting engaged soon. He has already talked to his family about it and it is just a matter of arranging it.
