A definite chance for Evander Holyfield to stand like a champion – Boxing News
American professional boxer, Evander Holyfield, will have a chance to fight for the World Championship title, if he is able to beat the Danish national, Brian Nielsen, in a 12-round non-title bout on Saturday, May 7, at Copenhagen, Denmark.
The former Heavyweight Champion, Holyfield, has been an outstanding performer since his debut against Lionel Byarm, in 1984. The 48-year-old, Holyfield has fought a total of fifty-six fights, of which he has won forty-three bouts which include twenty-eight
knock-out wins, two draws and ten losses to his professional boxing career. He has won the World Heavyweight Championship title on four occasions in his career.
Holyfield's last fight was against Sherman Williams in January, in his home country. The bout was ruled as a no-contest, after the fight was stopped when Holyfield was injured due to an accidental head clash in the second round.
The American boxer on his arrival to the arena said that he would not be fighting if he is not in a good condition or one hundred percent ready.
Before his fight against Williams, Holyfield scored the technical knock-out decision over Francois Botha in 2010, to win the World Boxing Federation’s (WBF) Heavyweight title in the process.
The American’s previous losses to Nikolay Valuev and Sultan Ibragimov have certainly dented the boxer’s confidence a bit, but Holyfield is looking good to go against anyone, this time around.
Holyfield spoke to the press on Monday, “If I win, I am moving to the next level, I am hoping to get a championship bout with other guys with other belts. Back then when I was young, I made a lot mistakes but I had the stamina and all that to overcome. Today,
you have less stamina but more focus. Either way you go, if you play with what you have, you win.”
Despite the fact that Holyfield is the favourite contestant of this combat, Brian Nielsen will be looking to put up a good show. The Danish boxer has promised his country fellows, that he would win this bout.
Nielsen’s last fight was against Uriah Grant in 2002, where he won from a unanimous decision.
