  1. Liesel, I've noticed you've asked several similar questions regarding different degrees, all asking about the bottom line of "how much money?".

There are a couple of things I'd like to point out to you. Each of these fields have a wide variety of applications in the workforce, at varying levels of expertise and specialization, making it difficult to quote a firm 'entry level' salary. Also, you simply say "degree" rather than specifying the level of degree - AA, AS, BA, BS, MA, MBA, MLS, PhD, EdD, JD, etc. A lot of what you will earn at an entry level will depend on the level of your education, as well as your geographic location and the local job market. My advice here would be to get the best and most education you can afford, and don't be afraid to change majors if you find something isn't your "cup of tea". Keep exploring, through classes, internships and volunteer work, until you find the right fit for you.

But most importantly, I would urge anyone contemplating a new career (regardless of their current experience, education or age), to look at personal factors. Find out what your personal strengths are (the book Strength Finders 2.0 is a great asset), and talk with a career counselor (see your local community college or university - many services to prospective students are free) about your hopes, dreams and passions.

Find a field that will be "soul satisfying" and don't focus on the money. The financial rewards will be sweeter when they come from working in a field you love, rather than from a job you "have" to go to every day. And because you're doing something you're passionate about, you will excel and move up the career ladder easily.

  2. I'm in the IT field and don't really know much about Environmental Studies but I'll tell you one thing though.. don't choose a major just because how much you can eventually end up making, it is a matter of like and dislike.

You need to find out if you are really interested in these two areas or either one of them. Whichever fits you the best is what you should study. There are plenty of ways to make money.
