The Japanese driver has clearly had an up and down season. He retired in the second race of the season at Malaysia where his team-mate the young Perez was able to secure his maiden podium finish behind the winner Fernando Alonso under overcast skies and
rain.
Kobayashi went on to score a single point from the Chinese GP followed by a pointless Bahrain GP. He was able show glimpses of his potential at the Spanish GP where he finished 5th and scored 10 vital points for his team.
Monaco was a difficult race for a lot of drivers, and Kobayashi had to retire as well along with 8 other drivers from the race. He did better at the Canadian GP by finishing in the top ten and scored 2 points.
European GP was another retirement for him followed by a pointless British GP. The Sauber driver did very well to bounce back at the German GP where he finished fourth his best finish of the season and scored 12 points from the race.
Kobayashi has been overshadowed by his inexperienced and younger team-mate Perez in the current season, but the season is not over yet, and he may well come back strongly after the season resumes from the summer break.
