A detailed 2012 season round up of Sauber driver Sergio Perez – Formula 1 news
Sergio Perez in only his second season in Formula 1 has been able to get the spotlight on him in a season where drivers have found it hard to perform.
The season has seen unprecedented results as there have been seven different winners in the first seven Grands Prix of the season. The level of competitiveness has been very high and amidst all this a driver with relatively less experience was able to perform
and get noticed. That is a great achievement for the Mexican driver.
After finishing eighth in the first race of the season at the Australian GP, Perez was able to secure his first podium finish in only the second race of the season at the Malaysian Grand Prix under overcast conditions and rain. It gave a glimpse of what
the Mexican can achieve in the years to come if he can apply himself.
In China Perez finished outside the top ten followed by another pointless race in Bahrain. In Spain he had to retire and Monaco proved to be a difficult race for many drivers and Perez also finished pointless sin the race.
Perez was able to secure his second podium of the season as he was able to finish 3rd in the race scoring 15 points for his team. After the race in Canada speculations of linking the Mexican’s name with Ferrari were brewing. Being a driver of Sauber running
with Ferrari engines, it is very much possible for Perez to be promoted to Ferrari.
Although Ferrari have said that Perez is too inexperienced to be part of Ferrari at this point, but there is still a good chance for the Mexican to remain in contention for the position as Ferrari have lost out on their first choice replacement Mark Webber,
who decided renew his contract with Red Bull.
Perez finished 9th at the European Grand Prix but followed that with another retirement in the British GP. The German Grand Prix was better for Perez as he finished 6th in the race but he finished the season prior to the summer break on a disappointing note
finishing 14th at the Hungarian Grand Prix.
It will interesting to see how Perez fares when the season resumes, he has the potential to achieve greater results and if he can perform well enough he may as well be able to land a race seat with Ferrari.
