A detailed analysis of Automotodrom Brno – MotoGP Special
The asphalt track is set for the upcoming Czech Republic motorcycle Grand Prix scheduled on August 26, 2012. The track consists of 14 corners with a 6 being left and 8 being right.
Automotodrom Brno was constructed in 1987 and was later modified in 1996. It has been serving the riders since 1930 however, it was earlier modified in 1980 mainly to attract Formula 1 to Czechoslovakia. The first conducted race here was in 1987 when it
hosted FIM Czech Grand Prix.
The main attraction of Automotodrom is that it is constructed on a naturally existing bowl. This layout gives spectators an excellent view over the riders. The administration is known to continuously change the elevation of the track as it passes through
forested hills. The layout comprising ups and downs, also tests the skills of riders and the engineering works with the bike.
The 3.357 miles long Automotodrom has a width of 15 metres. The longest straight is 0.395 miles in length.
The fastest lap record and the best pole record on the circuit are set by the Italian rider Valentino Rossi, who at that time was racing from Yamaha Factory Racing. The record was set in 2009 when he registered the lap in 1 minute and 56.145 seconds at the
highest speed of 165.7 km/h.
The circuit record is set by the Spanish rider, Jorge Lorenzo of team Yamaha with a highest speed of 166.7 km/h. This record was also set in 2009. However, the top achieved is by the Italian rider Max Biaggi who at that time was representing team Honda.
He was able to achieve a top speed of 311.2 km/h.
Last year 2011 witnessed Casey Stoner of Honda winning the race at Brno in a time of 43 minutes and 16.796 seconds he was followed by Andrea Dovizioso, his team mate with a delay of 6.532 seconds. The third place on the podium was also attained by a Honda
driver with a time delay of 7.792 seconds from the first place.
The fourth and fifth places were attained by Yamaha which was followed by Ducati at 6th place. Currently in the 2012 season team Honda attains 2nd and 3rd place in the championship.
Considering the past results, it can be said that Stoner can give Jorge Lorenzo of Yamaha a close competition at the track, this season. Jorge Lorenzo is currently leading the championship with 205 points, whereas Casey Stoner is at the 3rdplace in the championship
with 173 points. If he wins a race, it will add 25 points to his points reducing the gap considerably. This would also help Stoner to move a place above in the championship.
Dani Pedrosa of Honda was only able to complete 2 laps on Brno last year. This was because he crashed after completing his second lap.
Pedrosa and Lorenzo share a history of being bitter rivals. This all started in 2008 when the Spanish rider was able to finish his first three races on the podium resulting in taking record from another Spaniard.
Until now, Pedrosa has not been able to win any championship, although he holds an impressive record with 30 fastest laps out of 108 starts he made and owns 1586 points until the summer break of current 2012, season.
The upcoming grand prix will be a close competition for the championship leader however, Lorenzo is confident with his driving skills.
