A detailed analysis of Indianapolis Motor Speedway – MotoGP Special
The Indianapolis Motor Speedway is waiting for the Indianapolis Grand Prix to witness the first race after the summer break scheduled on August 19, 2012.
Hosting races since 1909, the Indianapolis circuit got its first chance to host MotoGP in 2008. The event was celebrated with a lot of modifications however, the oval on the track was not modified. The circuit is 2.620 miles in length with 16 corners, 10
being left and while the rest are right. The longest straight is of 0.542 miles. The circuit is 16 meters wide.
Honda has written many success stories on this track in the last 2011 season. All the records except top speed are registered here by Honda rider, Casey Stoner.
In 2011, Stoner was able to set a fastest lap record, by completing the Indianapolis circuit in 1 minute and 38.850 seconds. This was achieved with a speed of 153.5 km/h.
Stoner was also able to register circuit record and best pole record by finishing the lap in 1 minute and 39.807 seconds and 1 minute and 38.850 seconds respectively. The top speed achieved on this track is 323.9 km/h by Alex De Angelis, rider of Honda.
Casey Stoner is still riding for Honda and currently holds third place in the championship with 173 points. His career with MotoGP started in 2006 and until now, he has proved himself as champion twice.
In the current 2012 season, Casey Stoner is exhibiting his form with his machine. The former world champion has made it to the podium 70 percent of the times he started the race in the current season.
The mercury is forecasted to be around 28 degrees Celsius with zero percent chance of rain. It is expected that the flow of wind would at a speed of 6 mph, the humidity is expected to be 53 percent. Therefore, it is expected that it would be a dry circuit
and the compounds used would be hard. At United States Grand Prix, several riders could not make it to the finish line because their bike was getting out of control. Riders who used soft slick were able to finish the race.
Jorge Lorenzo of team Yamaha Factory Racing is facing a close competition retaining his title, however, until now he has been able to secure his place convincingly but considering the past of Stoner it can be assumed that the fans of Lorenzo will have to
keep their fingers crossed during the weekend.
Dani Pedrosa of Repsol Honda has been riding impressively throughout the season. In the current season, he has never finished any race without making it to the rostrum except for the France Grand Prix where he could only make it to the fourth place despite
having the pole position in that race.
It is highly waited how the upcoming Grand prix will end. The pressure is taking hype as riders are getting close in competition, the first three positions in the championship are based the flow of 32 points. Any race can change the standings as the winner
will get 25 points, runner up will get 20 points and 3rdperson on the rostrum will get 16 points. This marking will result in reducing the pressure created.
Another interesting performance to see would be of Ben Spies and Valentino Rossi. Spies has left Yamaha and Rossi has signed a contract with Yamaha replacing him, however the change of teams will only take place in the next 2013 season.
