A detailed analysis of the Monza circuit – Formula 1
The devastating accident at the Belgian Grand Prix has left people frustrated because it eliminated some key players including Fernando Alonso of Ferrari and Lewis Hamilton of McLaren.
Now it is time to forget the past incident and move on towards the upcoming Italian Grand scheduled on September 9th 2012, as FIA is taking care of the safety of the drivers by considering a modification in the rules. A cockpit may be introduced.
The 5.793 km long Monza circuit contains some famous victories and horrifying crashes. The drivers will therefore be driving with some extra care in the upcoming Italian GP. The track is known by the as a magical track and it is also said that there is no
other place which exhibits formula 1 better than Monza.
The race will be conducted in a clockwise direction and the drivers would have to pass through 11 turns including some long straights and some small curves like Variante Del Rettifilo at turn 1, Variante Della Roggia at turn 5 and Variante Ascari at turn
8, 9 and 10. The tricky turns drop the speed to as low as 74 km/h.
The weather forecasts are that it would be clear during the race and the temperature will range between 17 – 28 degrees during the weekend.
Last year Sebastian Vettel attained the victory at the Italian GP but completing his 53 laps in 1 hour 20 minutes and 46.172 seconds. The second place on the podium was secured by Jenson Button of McLaren and he was followed by the championship leader of
current 2012 season Fernando Alonso of Ferrari. Vettel had the pole for that race whereas Button and Alonso improved their grid position by 1 rank as they had started at 3rd and 4th grid positions respectively.
This year the race will be of 53 laps and the distance 306.720 km. The lap record was registered in 2004 by a Brazilian driver Rubens Barrichello. He completed the lap in 1 minute and 21.046 seconds.
Year 2011 witnessed 8 drivers retiring due to accident, steering or gearbox issues.
Mark Webber of Red Bull Racing currently at the 3rd position in the championship with 132 points complained after the Belgian Grand Prix that he was unable to overtake during the straights and could not get most out of his car.
On the other hand Mercedes is not satisfied with the adjustment of tyres in the remainder of the season, until now. Ross Brawn team principal of Mercedes has stated that they are working over the issue.
Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus has attained 4 podiums in the last 5 races he has started. He currently owns 131 points and is 33 points behind the championship leader Fernando Alonso of Ferrari. Eric Boullier team principal of Lotus believes that Raikkonen can
fight for the championship title, however it should be considered that Raikkonen has never won any race at the Monza Circuit. Raikkonen is of the view that he is looking forward towards the upcoming Italian GP forgetting the past records.
It solely depends on the luck of the Finnish rider, to attain the championship, as 8 races are still to go in the current 2012 season and there are still 33 points to go. If Alonso finishes at the second place then Raikkonen would have to win 5 races to
fill up the gap with the Spanish driver as the points awarded to the winner are 25 whereas to the runner up are 18. If the Spanish driver wins another race the gap between him and Raikkonen will further widen.
Let’s see what happens in the upcoming weekend and lets hope it to be clean, without accidents.
