A detailed look at Felipe Massa’s performance in the 2011 Formula 1 season
Ferrari driver Felipe Massa ended the 2011 Formula 1 season with his average results in the championship.
After the below par start to the season, Massa finally finished the championship at the sixth position behind McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton.
The Brazilian driver has been unable to manage single podium finish throughout the season. He has been failed to struggle on the sets of hard tyres by Pirelli in the starting races especially the 2011 Spanish Grand Prix. Apart from that, he had a lot of
contacts with Hamilton during the championship fight.
Despite having several issues with his car and tyres, Massa tried his best to get better position in the end of the season.
He ended the 2011 F1 season in the sixth spot with 118 points in the drivers’ standings.
With regards to Massa’s show throughout the championship, he did not has good start to the season, as he was not able to perform well in the initial rounds.
In the 2011 Australian Grand Prix, Massa managed the seventh position for the team in the end of the race.
He tried to cover his gap from the top three runners in the next Malaysian Grand Prix and finished the race at the fifth position as well.
The Maranello-based outfit driver dropped his one position in the 2011 Chinese race weekend and ended up in the sixth spot for Ferrari.
The 2011 Turkish GP was declared as unlucky for Massa, as he has been unable to make progress throughout the race weekend. He could not finish the Turkish race in the top ten positions, as his competitors were faster as compared to him. He took 11th place
for the team in the end of the race weekend.
The next couple of races, held in Spain and Monaco also declared as unsuccessful for Ferrari driver, because he retired from the both races.
The 30-year-old driver made a lot of struggle in wet conditions throughout the 2011 Canadian GP and after putting all of his efforts, he ended up in the sixth spot for the team.
Massa put the team at the fifth place in the 2011 European Grand Prix. He kept the momentum of his position in the next British and German Grand Prix.
He again dropped his one position in the 2011 Hungarian race weekend and claimed sixth place for the team in the end.
Massa was at the eighth place in the 2011 Belgian Grand Prix, while in the Italian race weekend he came at the sixth position in the final Grand Prix classifications after staring from the same place on the opening grid.
The team driver has been unable to perform well during the raceday of the 2011 Singapore GP. He managed ninth position for the team after running in his 150° Italia car.
After the disappointing Singapore race at the Marina Bay street circuit, Massa ended the Japanese GP at the seventh position, while he took sixth place in the end of the 2011 Korean race weekend.
Massa retired from the race for the third time in the season at the 2011 Indian Grand Prix. In the next Abu Dhabi race weekend, he finished the Grand Prix at the fifth position and in recently held Brazilian Grand Prix he was again in the same place.
After the season, Ferrari are expecting better performance from Massa in the 2012 F1 season.
