A detailed look at Fernando Alonso’s performance in 2011 Formula 1 season
Scuderia-Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso ended the 2011 Formula 1 championship in a decent note for the team following his disappointing start to the season.
Alonso finished the season at the fourth place behind Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber with 257 points in drivers’ standings.
The Spaniard completed 18 rounds of the season except 2011 Canadian Grand Prix, because he was retired from the race after finishing 36 laps due to an accident.
The team driver seemed to make a lot of struggle for his best possible results in the championship after the mid of the season.
Alonso kicked off to below par 2011 F1 season, as his car was unable to support him properly in the initial stages of the championship battle.
Apart from that, he has been unable to make progress on the sets of hard tyres by Pirelli in the opening rounds especially 2011 Spanish Grand Prix.
The former world champion put the team on a positive note in the end of the season by taking fourth position in drivers’ championship.
With regards to Alonso’s show throughout the 2011 F1 season, he was failed to manage a podium position in the first race of the season at Australian racetrack.
After starting from the fifth position on the opening grid, he ended up in the fourth place for the team.
The next Malaysian Grand Prix was not good enough for Alonso, as he could not make progress in terms of performance throughout the race weekend. He finished the race weekend at the sixth position for the team after running in his 150° Italia car.
The Maranello-based outfit driver came at the seventh position in the 2011 Chinese Grand Prix, while in the next Turkish GP he managed his first podium position of the season at there.
After starting the race from the fifth place on the grid, he ended up on the last stair of the podium in Turkey.
In the 2011 Spanish GP, Alonso dropped down his position and finished the race at the fifth position after struggling on the hard compounds.
The 2011 Monaco GP declared as lucky for Alonso, as he managed the second position for Ferrari after starting from the fourth place.
He retired from the Canadian race weekend due to an accident.
After a disappointing Montreal race, the 30-year-old driver bounced back on the grid at the 2011 European GP, where he ended the race at the second position for the team.
The team driver managed his first race win of the 2011 F1 season at the British Grand Prix. After starting from the third position on the opening grid, he topped the race weekend after battling it out with their rivals.
Alonso was at the second position in the end of the German race, while in the Hungarian Grand Prix he came at the third position in the final race classifications.
He put out his step from the podium in the next Belgian Grand Prix, as he managed the race at the fourth position at there.
He was again on the podium in the Italian GP. Alonso claimed fourth place for the team in the end of the Singapore race weekend.
The Italian squad driver put the team at the second position in the 2011 Japanese GP, while he was in the fifth spot in the end of the Korean race.
In the Indian and Abu Dhabi GP, he finished the race at the third and second place respectively for Ferrari after putting all of his efforts.
In recently held Brazilian GP, Alonso managed the fourth position for the team and ended the season at the fourth position ahead of McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton in the drivers’ standings.
After the 2011 F1 championship, Alonso is expecting a more competitive car for 2012. On the other hand, the team hope their driver will take strong start to the next F1 season for them.
