Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso is the best driver in 2012 Formula 1 season so far as he is currently leading the drivers’ championship with 76 points. Moreover, he is 3 points ahead of Red Bull Racing pair of drivers, Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber.
Despite struggling throughout the pre-season testing programme, the Spaniard has performed amazingly well in the season until now. Even though, he himself expressed that they might face difficulties in the first few races. However, he has been successful
in limiting the damage for his team.
He secured an impressive fifth place finish in the season opener held at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia after starting the race from 12th grid position.
Later, in the second race held at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia, he took an incredible victory on wet track after qualifying for 8th place in the grid. In the third race, held at Shanghai International Circuit in China, he secured 9thposition
after he qualified for the same grid position.
Afterwards, in the fourth race at Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir, he delivered reasonable performance as came 7th after setting off from 9th grid position.
Additionally, he showed inspiring performance in the fifth race at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona as he secured second podium finish.
Over and above, in the sixth race at Circuit de Monaco, he secured a striking third podium finish ahead of the defending champion, Vettel and Lewis Hamilton of McLaren.
It will be important to mention that the president of Ferrari, Luca di Montezemolo has praised the performance of the two-time world champion and has declared him the best driver. Moreover, he associated Alonso with the legendary drivers like Niki Lauda
and Michael Schumacher.
“Alonso is the best driver in the world. Alonso is one of those drivers, like Lauda and Schumacher, who have had a great importance in my professional life and in that of Ferrari. He has all the requisites for winning, but we need to improve the car. I think

in Canada,” he said.
In addition, he said that he is very much pleased with the efforts which his team has made until now regardless of facing issues during the start of the season. However, he said that they still need to keep on making the essential advancements and the necessary
preparations so as to improve the pace of F2012 for the forthcoming races in order to fight for the championship title this year.
Besides, he also admired Alonso’s teammate, Felipe Massa who could only score 2 points in the first five races but qualified for 7th grid position in the last race and secured 6th place finish in the race.
On the other hand, the Brazilian driver also said that he is feeling positive and aiming to deliver his best in the season ahead after Monaco GP.
Above and beyond, Alonso said that he is confidently looking forward to perform well in 2012 Canadian Grand Prix which is to be held at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal on June 10.
